Lease Japan can assist you with shipping your car back home or wherever you wish to send it.

We ship to most countries where laws and regulations permit. We currently offer this shipping service in the Tokyo and Nagoya/Chubu areas. States have rules about what can and cannot be shipped, and often require tests before one is allowed into the country. Therefore we highly recommend that you contact the customs department in the destination country to get the most up to date information on import regulations for Japanese used cars.

Payment of Freight Costs will depend on the type of shipping:

• FOB: Free On Board, this is the vehicle purchase price plus the cost of processing. Freight will be paid on delivery at the destination.
• C&F: Cost and Freight, which is the vehicle purchase price, the cost of processing, and the cost of freight.
• CIF: Cost, Insurance, and Freight, which is the vehicle purchase price, the cost of processing, cost of insurance, and cost of freight.

Our Service includes:

• Collecting the car from you (as long as it is in the Nagoya/Chubu/Mie or Tokyo area)
• Delivering the car to the shipping company;
• De-registering the car and obtaining the Export Certificate;
• Lodging the Shipping Invoice and all necessary documents with the shipping company;
• Sending the Customs Invoice, Bill of Lading, and all necessary documents to you by courier and informing you of the arrival date.

Lease Japan is an official "Designated Store," which means that we can sell cars and car parts without charging Sales Tax.

Who is eligible?

You must also possess an official "Menzei Card" (or Duty exemption card) to be eligible for this exemption.

What is required?

You must show your "Menzei Card" to a staff member of LeaseJapan when placing an order for a Car or Car part and must also provide LeaseJapan with the appropriate completed form. This form is called the "Certificate of Tax Exemption Purchase for Foreign Establishments." For car purchases, you must be contracted to stay in Japan for a minimum of 24 months from the time the car is registered in your name. If both the Mezei Card and the appropriate form is lodged with Lease Japan, you will be exempt from paying Japanese sales tax.

Other Requirements:

You must be in Japan for a minimum of 24months. For car purchases, you must be going to stay in Japan for another 24months from the date that the car is registered in your name.

Pre-Registered

By Japanese law, local authorities need to be notified when the owner of a vehicle changes. The same is required if the owner or user changes their address too. The owner must note any changes on the vehicle's registration document (Vehicle Road Worthiness Test Certificate).

An application needs to be lodged with the local police station and Transport Department by the owner of the vehicle, or through a proxy.

NB: Please check the details on the Vehicle Road Worthiness Test Certificate before applying.

How long does this process take?

Making an application with the local police station takes three working days. A further day is then required to complete the process at the Transport Department. What documentation do I need? Firstly, check you have the following. Under Japanese law, both documents should be kept in the vehicle logbook inside the car. The Japanese name for each is in parenthesis.

1. 1. Vehicle Road Worthiness Test Certificate (車検書 / sha-ken-sho)
   2. Compulsory Insurance Certificate* (自動車損害賠償責任保険証明書 / ji-dou-sha-son-gai-bai-shou-seki-nin-ho-ken-shou-mei-sho)

*Not required when the user doesn't change. You will then need to obtain the following documentation from the relative parties:

1. 1. Proof of Address - A registered copy of Alien Registration (記載事項証明書 / ki-sai-ji-kou-shou-mei-sho) This should include the previous address too if it's noted on the Vehicle Road Worthiness Test Certificate.
   2. Parking Consent Certificate

If a third party owns your vehicle, you will be required to submit all of the above; plus:

1. 1. Vehicle Owner's Power of Attorney (所有者の委任状 / sho-yuu-sha-no-i-nin-jou)

I don't know where to get all of these documents. Can you help?

the owner can obtain the 'Parking Consent' form from the management company of your house/apartment. Lease Japan will supply a 'Power of Attorney' when required. the owner can obtain all other documentation from your local City/Ward office for a small fee.

NB: All Certification documents should have been obtained within the last three months to be valid. I have all the necessary documentation.

How much will this cost?

Our standard fee is set at JPY42,000 (tax included) per vehicle for this service. In addition, there are actual costs involved during the registration process. These include but are not limited to the Parking Application fee, Registration fee, and Acquisition Tax. (Where applicable)

NB: Lease Japan will pay all actual costs at the time of application. After the registration is completed, we will forward all original receipts to the customer and an invoice for payment. We will add all actual costs to the fee charged by Lease Japan for this service. The service I am looking for is not here.

Second Hand

In correlation with Japanese law, no vehicle can drive on public roads without being registered with the local authorities. An application needs to be lodged with the local police station and the local Transport Department by the vehicle owner or a proxy. Lease Japan can, with your permission, lodge this application on your behalf for a small fee.

How long does this process take?

The process to register a vehicle changes case-by-case but should take around five working days to do so after receiving all of the necessary documentation.

What documentation do I need?

Firstly, check you have the following. Under Japanese law, documents marked with an asterisk should be kept in the vehicle logbook inside the car. The Japanese name for each is in parenthesis.

1. 1. Vehicle Road Worthiness Test Certificate* (車検書 / sha-ken-sho)
   2. Mandatory Vehicle Insurance Certificate* (自動車損害賠償責任保険証明書 / ji-dou-sha-son-gai-bai-shou-seki-nin-ho-ken-shou-mei-sho)
   3. Vehicle Weight Tax Payment Certificate（重量税納付書 / jyuu-ryou-zei-nou-fu-sho

If your purchased vehicle comes with no number plate (i.e., no Road Worthiness Test), you will be required to submit the following in exchange for the above:

1. 1. Certificate of Cancellation of Registration (抹消登録証明書 / mas-shou-tou-roku-shou-mei-sho）

You will then be required to obtain the following pieces of documentation from the necessary parties. Again, Japanese names are in parenthesis.

1. 1. Proof of Address - A registered copy of Alien Registration (記載事項証明書 / ki-sai-ji-kou-shou-mei-sho)
   2. 'Parking Consent Form' (保管場所使用承諾証明書 / ho-ken-ba-sho-shi-you-shou-daku-shou-mei-sho)
   3. Seal Certification (印鑑証明書 / in-kan-shou-mei-sho)
   4. Certificate of Transfer (譲渡証明書 / jou-to-shou-mei-sho)

If your vehicle has been imported into Japan, you will be required to submit all of the above, plus:

1. 1. Customs Clearance Certificate (自動車通関証明書 / ji-dou-sha-tsuu-kan-shou-mei-sho)
